Great Day Live - Something Wicked This Way Comes!

Your monthly book correspondent returns…

Instead of guessing the weather, we’re guessing your next favorite book!

Can you feel that?

Really….can you?

A chill in the air. A breeze on your face, and maybe…a howling in the wind.

But maybe the howling is just you, trying to find parking downtown as the Rays enter the World Series.

Either way, we need books to go with the season.

If you know me, I am a horror lover. There, I SAID IT. You got me, dead to rights! Ever since I had my greasy little five year old hands on a copy of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps, I knew what I wanted, and I wanted it scary, disgusting, and in paperback form.

Luckily, as book director, I have been able to steep myself in the horror canon non of today and yesteryear, and have handpicked the best of current horror’s must-haves and a few selections that may have passed you by, but need to be read (preferably after carving a pumpkin and locking your doors).

  • Go down the rabbit hole of grief in a book of cosmic terror, with Gus Moreno’s This Thing Between Us.

  • Sorry Stephen King, there is a challenger for your crown! Stephen Graham Jones’s Off the Reservation weaves a tapestry of fear and history.

  • Tananarive Due’s Mazywood is perfect for fans of Jordan Peele’s Nope and fiction interspersed with the ‘glory days’ of Old Hollywood.

And more! Check out the list for the best books for the end of your October!
